Text Drilldown

Review every document where a supported text pattern appears.

Overview

Text Drilldown lists every document that contains a text pattern. Each match is shown with the surrounding lines, so you can see exactly where the pattern appears. The page searches the full text of every processed document; it doesn’t depend on extracted entities.

Open the page

In File View, click the eye icon next to an entity or mention:

  • on an entity row in the Entities panel (View documents containing this entity);
  • on the subject or object of a relation in the Relations panel;
  • on a mention in the Coreference Clusters panel.

IntQuest opens a drilldown for that text across all documents. The page address has the form /drilldown/ followed by the encoded text, so you can bookmark or share it.

Page layout

  • 1 Back - returns to the page you came from.
  • 2 Title - shows the pattern in quotes, for example Drilldown for "judecătorie".
  • 3 Export CSV - downloads every match as a CSV file.
  • 4 Summary - the number of documents found and the match mode, for example Mode: word. The modes are word, prefix, suffix, contains, phrase, phrase_prefix, phrase_suffix, and phrase_contains.
  • 5 Document card - one card per document. The card header shows the document name, the number of matches, the file type, the language code, and the processed date and time.
  • 6 Match lines - each match is shown with two context lines before and after it. Line numbers appear on the left.
  • 7 Highlighted match - the matched text, highlighted in amber.
  • 8 Total - the total number of matches and documents, for example Total: 1 match in 1 document.

Buttons and actions

  • Back: returns to the previous page.
  • Export CSV: downloads every match, not only the visible ones, with the document name, matched text, surrounding context, and line numbers.
  • Document name: click it to open the document in File View.

Supported text patterns

IntQuest supports eight pattern types on this page. The pattern type is detected automatically based on wildcards (*) and whether the text contains spaces.

The examples use the Romanian sample documents L3042004organizareajudiciara.docx and HCSM3872005regulamentordineinterioara.docx.

Single-word patterns

judecătorie — Exact word

Matches only the whole word “judecătorie”. It doesn’t match “judecătoriei” or “judecătoriile”.

judecător* — Prefix

Matches words that start with “judecător”, for example “judecătorești” and “judecătorească”.

*torie — Suffix

Matches words that end with “torie”, for example “judecătorie”, “obligatorie”, and “aleatorie”.

*judec* — Contains

Matches words that contain “judec” anywhere, for example “judecarea”, “judecătorești”, and “judecătorească”.

Multi-word patterns

When the text contains spaces, IntQuest treats it as a phrase.

organizarea judiciară — Exact phrase

Matches the exact phrase, at word boundaries.

organizarea judiciar* — Phrase prefix

Matches text that starts with the phrase. The last word can continue, so “organizarea judiciară” also matches.

*rea judiciară — Phrase suffix

Matches text that ends with the phrase. The first word can begin earlier, so “organizarea judiciară” matches.

*rea judiciar* — Phrase contains

Matches text that contains the phrase anywhere.

Unsupported patterns

If IntQuest can’t parse your pattern, it shows the message Unsupported plain-text pattern. with the supported formats instead of results.

A pattern is unsupported when:

  • The text contains quote marks (").
  • A wildcard (* or ?) is placed in the middle of a word, for example fr*ud.
  • The input is empty or contains only wildcards.

Rules to remember

  • Keep the pattern simple — one word or one phrase, with optional * at the start or end.
  • Don’t use quote marks. They aren’t needed and cause an unsupported-pattern message.
  • Wildcards (*) belong only at the very start or very end of the pattern, never in the middle.
  • Matching is case-insensitive: Cluj, CLUJ, and cluj produce the same results.

Documents containing an entity

A related page, Documents containing, lists the documents that contain one stored entity. It opens from a direct link of the form /entity/ followed by the entity identifier. It shows the same document cards as Text Drilldown, with the number of mentions per document and a total, but it has no Export CSV button and no match mode.

Large result sets

If the number of matching passages exceeds 10,000, a warning says that the results were truncated. The results are still shown, but some matches may be missing. Use a more specific pattern to see every match.

Notes

  • If you see an unsupported-pattern message, simplify the search: remove quotes, remove interior wildcards, and try again.
  • The Export CSV button exports all matches, not just the ones visible on screen.
  • When no documents match the pattern, the page shows No documents found for this text pattern.
