Groups

Manage permission groups, their members, and the access they grant.

Overview

The Groups page is the roster of permission groups. A group bundles members and permissions: every active group grants its permissions to its members. See Roles and permissions for what each permission unlocks.

Before you begin

You need the Users / Groups permission.

Open the page

Click Administration in the navigation bar, then click the Groups card. If you are already in Administration, click Groups in the section bar.

Page layout

  • 1 Section bar - switches between the administration sections. Groups is selected.
  • 2 Search - the Find by group, member, or permission field filters the groups on the current page.
  • 3 Status filter - All, Active, or Inactive, each with a count.
  • 4 Add group - opens the Add group dialog.
  • 5 Results line - for example Showing 1–2 of 2 groups, with the page numbers on the right. Each page shows up to 8 groups.
  • 6 Group roster - one row per group. See Group roster.
  • 7 Status - the activation switch of the group. The Administrators group shows a fixed Active status and a System group badge.
  • 8 Actions - Edit group (pen icon) and Delete group (trash icon). The Administrators group shows Protected instead.

Administrators group

The built-in Administrators group shows a fixed Active status, a System group badge, and Protected instead of the action buttons. It can’t be edited, deactivated, or deleted here.

Add a group

  • 1 Name - the group name. Required.
  • 2 Members - the users in the group. Optional.
  • 3 Permissions - Modify Settings, Users / Groups, or both. Optional.
  • 4 Create group - creates the group. Close cancels.
  1. Click Add group.
  2. Enter a Name.
  3. Optional: in Members, select the users to add.
  4. Optional: in Permissions, select Modify Settings, Users / Groups, or both. With no permissions, the group gives standard Stats and Search access only.
  5. Click Create group. Click Close to cancel.

Edit a group

  • 1 Name - the group name.
  • 2 Members - the users in the group.
  • 3 Permissions - the selected permissions. Click × on a permission to remove it.
  • 4 Save changes - saves the group. Close discards the changes.
  1. Click Edit group on the group row.
  2. Change the Name, Members, or Permissions.
  3. Click Save changes.

Changes to permissions apply to every member of the group.

Activate or deactivate a group

Click the switch in the Status column. If the group has members, a confirmation explains that they lose the access the group grants until it is activated again. Click Deactivate group to continue.

Delete a group

  1. Click Delete group (trash icon).
  2. In the confirmation, which says how many members lose access, click Delete group.

You can’t undo the deletion. Members who belonged only to that group lose the access it granted.

Notes

  • Removing a user from all groups limits them to Stats and Search.
  • The Administrators group is protected. It shows no edit, delete, or switch controls.
