Navigating DeviceQuest
Find your way around DeviceQuest with the sidebar, favorites, the command palette, breadcrumbs, the theme switch and your account menu.
Overview
Every DeviceQuest page shares the same frame: the sidebar on the left, a header with breadcrumbs and the theme switch at the top, and the page itself in the middle. The sidebar groups pages the way you work, from operating your estate to administering DeviceQuest. Favorites, recent pages and the command palette (⌘K / Ctrl+K) get you anywhere in a couple of keystrokes.
Screen tour
- Search (Find assets, pages, settings…, ⌘K): opens the command palette.
- Favorites: the pages you’ve starred, always at the top.
- Recent: the last pages you visited, skipping the page you’re on and your favorites.
- Section header (here Operate): click to fold or unfold the section. A folded section shows how many pages it holds. A dot marks the section of the page you’re on.
- Admin: administration pages, folded by default.
- Account: your name and organisation. Click to open your account menu.
- Collapse sidebar: shrinks the sidebar to a narrow icon rail.
- Breadcrumbs: where you are, for example Operate › Asset Inventory.
- Theme switch: toggles light and dark mode.
- Docs: opens this documentation in a new browser tab.
The DeviceQuest logo at the top of the sidebar takes you to Asset Inventory.
Sidebar sections
| Section | Pages |
|---|---|
| Operate | Dashboard, Asset Inventory |
| Discover | Scan Scheduling, Scan Targets, Scan Credentials, Scan Results, Ingestion |
| Risk | Vulnerabilities, Triage, Remediations, Exceptions, Cloud Resources |
| Govern | Compliance, Licenses, Reports |
| Build | Flows, Views, Helpdesk, Developer |
| Admin | Users, Host Agents, Enroll Agent, Software Curation, RBAC, MFA, Audit Retention, SSO, API Keys, Integrations, Audit log, CVE Feeds, SNMP MIBs, Cleanup Rules, Custom Fields |
The four Scan items open the matching tab of the scanning command center. Below the sections, Docs opens this documentation in a new browser tab.
The sidebar shows the pages your role can open. If you follow a link to a page outside your role, DeviceQuest shows Access restricted.
Pin favorites
- Hover over a page in the sidebar. A star appears at the right of the row.
- Click the star. The page appears under Favorites at the top of the sidebar, and its star stays filled.
- To unpin it, click the filled star again, either under Favorites or in its section.
Favorites stay in the order you added them.
Recent pages
The Recent zone lists the sidebar pages you opened most recently, newest first. It leaves out the page you’re on and pages that are already favorites, so nothing appears twice. When the sidebar is collapsed, recent pages appear as icons at the top of the rail.
Your favorites, recent pages, folded sections and collapsed state are remembered in this browser for a year, and DeviceQuest shows them straight away on every page load.
Collapse the sidebar
- Section icon (here Risk): one icon per section. Hover over it, or click it, to open its flyout.
- Flyout: the section’s pages. Click one to open it.
- Expand sidebar: returns the sidebar to full width.
- Click Collapse sidebar (the arrow at the bottom of the sidebar). The sidebar becomes a narrow rail of section icons.
- Hover over a section icon to see its pages in a flyout, or click the icon. Hovering over a page icon shows its name.
- Click Expand sidebar to bring the full sidebar back.
From the keyboard: Tab to a section icon and press Enter, Space or → to open the flyout. Use ↑ and ↓ (or Home and End) to move between pages, Enter to open one, and Esc to close the flyout.
Jump anywhere with the command palette
- Search field (Find assets, pages, settings…): type part of a page name or what the page is for.
- Results: up to eight matching pages, each with its description and section. The highlighted result opens when you press Enter.
- Key hints: ↑↓ Navigate, ↵ Open, Esc Close.
- Press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux, or click Find assets, pages, settings… in the sidebar. Pressing the same keys again closes the palette.
- Before you type, the palette lists your Recent pages: the last five pages you opened from the palette. The first time, it shows Quick tips instead.
- Type what you’re looking for, for example
scanorexceptions. DeviceQuest matches page names and their descriptions, soCVEfinds Vulnerabilities. - Use ↑ and ↓ to highlight a result and press Enter, or click it.
If nothing matches, the palette shows No results for “…” and suggests another term. Press Esc or click outside the palette to close it.
Breadcrumbs
The header shows the path to the current page: the sidebar section, then the page, then any detail level below it. For example, an asset’s detail page shows Operate › Asset Inventory › Detail. Click a linked crumb to go back up a level. Section names (such as Operate) are labels.
Switch between light and dark mode
Click the moon icon in the top-right corner to switch to dark mode, or the sun icon to switch back. DeviceQuest remembers your choice in this browser. This documentation site has its own theme switch in its header. Until you choose, DeviceQuest follows your operating system’s light or dark setting.
Your account menu
- Who you are: your name, email address and organisation.
- MFA Settings: opens your Multi-Factor Authentication page.
- Help & docs: opens this documentation in a new browser tab.
- Sign out: ends your session and returns you to the sign-in page. If signing out fails, DeviceQuest shows Sign out failed. Please try again.
- Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar. On a phone or narrow window, click the round initial in the top-right corner instead.
- Use the mouse, or ↑ and ↓, to choose an item. Press Esc or click elsewhere to close the menu.
On a phone or small window
On narrow screens, the sidebar is hidden to make room for the page.
- Search: the same quick search as on a desktop.
- Close navigation menu: hides the drawer again.
- Tap the menu button (three lines) at the top left of the header. The navigation drawer slides in with the full sidebar: search, favorites, recent pages, all sections and your name.
- Tap a page. The drawer closes and the page opens.
- To close the drawer without choosing a page, tap ✕, tap outside the drawer, or press Esc.
Your account menu sits in the top-right corner of the header on small screens.
