Schedules

Create recurring scans, run them on demand, and pause, resume or delete them.

Overview

A schedule runs a scan of one saved target on a recurring cadence. It ties together the target, an optional credential, an optional scan profile and, when the target sits in a remote network, a bridge host agent. Use the Schedules tab of Scanning to create schedules, start a scan immediately, and pause scanning during maintenance windows.

Screen tour

  1. Search schedules…: filters by schedule name or target address.
  2. All / Enabled / Paused: filters by schedule state. When every schedule has the same priority, the toolbar shows a note such as All medium priority instead of a Priority column.
  3. Schedule: the name, an Enabled or Paused badge, the cron expression and its plain-language description, for example Daily at 00:00 UTC.
  4. Fires at: a 24-hour bar (UTC) with a dot for each hour the schedule fires. Dots are grey while the schedule is paused.
  5. Credential: the credential the schedule uses. None means no credential is selected. Missing means the selected credential was deleted.
  6. Next run: a live countdown to the next run, or Paused.
  7. Run now: starts a scan immediately, after you confirm.
  8. Pause: stops future runs. On a paused schedule, the button reads Resume.

Each row also has Edit and Delete. Click the Schedule, Next run or Priority column header to sort. The list shows 15 schedules per page.

Create a schedule

  1. Name: a label for the schedule, for example Nightly /24 sweep.
  2. Bridge host agent: where the scan runs. Keep Run from control plane, or pick an online host agent to run the scan from inside its network.
  3. Saved target: the target to scan. Targets are listed as address · type · status, active targets first.
  4. Credential: the credential to log in with, or No credential (discovery only).
  5. Scan profile: the scan profile whose settings the scans use, or None (scanner defaults). Only profiles for the target’s scan type are listed.
  6. Cadence: how often the scan runs. See Cadence.
  7. Priority: Low, Medium, High or Critical.
  1. On the Schedules tab, click New Schedule.
  2. Enter a Name.
  3. Optionally, choose a Bridge host agent.
  4. Choose the Saved target. If you have no targets yet, the modal shows No saved targets. Create one in the Targets tab first.
  5. Optionally, choose a Credential. For a range target, this credential is used for the authenticated per-host follow-up that runs after discovery.
  6. Optionally, choose a Scan profile. The list shows only the profiles whose scan type matches the target’s scan type. Keep None (scanner defaults) to use the scanner defaults. See Scan profiles.
  7. Choose the Cadence and check the Preview line under it.
  8. Choose the Priority.
  9. Click Create schedule.

New schedules are enabled straight away. The first run happens at the next time the cadence fires.

Cadence

The Cadence list offers four presets. All times are UTC.

PresetCron expressionRuns
Hourly0 * * * *Every hour at :00
Daily 00:00 UTC0 0 * * *Every day at midnight (the default)
Daily 12:00 UTC0 12 * * *Every day at noon
Weekly Mon 00:00 UTC0 0 * * 1Every Monday at midnight

To use any other timing, choose Custom… and type a standard 5-field cron expression into the box that appears:

minute hour day-of-month month day-of-week
FieldAllowed values
minute0–59
hour0–23
day of month1–31
month1–12
day of week0–7 (0 and 7 are Sunday)

Each field accepts a number, * (every value), lists (1,15), ranges (8-18) and steps (*/15). Examples:

ExpressionPreview
*/30 * * * *Every 30 minutes
0 */6 * * *Every 6 hours at :00
30 2 * * *Daily at 02:30 UTC
0 3 * * 0Weekly on Sunday at 03:00 UTC
0 4 1 * *Monthly on the 1st at 04:00 UTC

The modal checks the expression when you leave the box and when you save:

  • Cron must have exactly 5 fields (m h dom mon dow).
  • Invalid minute field “…”. (or hour, day of month, month, day of week) when a field contains other characters.
  • Invalid hour value “25” (must be 0-23). when a number is out of range.

Run a scan now

  1. On the schedule’s row, click Run now.
  2. In the Run scan now dialog, check the target address and click Start scan.

A toast confirms Scan started on 10.20.0.0/24. View in Results tab. and the new job appears at the top of Results. If the schedule’s saved target was deleted or is inactive, the toast reads This schedule no longer has an active saved target. Reassign before running. Edit the schedule and choose another target. If the target is already being scanned, the toast reads A scan is already running on this target.

Pause and resume a schedule

  • Click Pause to stop future runs. The badge changes to Paused, the Next run column shows Paused, and the row is dimmed. Scans already running finish normally.
  • Click Resume to enable the schedule again. The next run is calculated from the cadence.

You can also clear or tick Enabled in the Edit schedule modal.

Run a scan through a bridge host agent

A bridge host agent is a DeviceQuest agent installed inside a remote network, such as a branch office or an isolated segment. When a schedule names a bridge host agent, the control plane sends the scan to that agent, and the agent scans the target from its own network and reports the results back.

  • The Bridge host agent list shows active, online agents as os/arch · agent ID · status.
  • The agent must be online when the scan starts.
  • When a bridge host agent is selected, the agent uses its own scanner settings, as the Scan profile hint explains.

Install and manage agents on the Host Agents page under Admin.

Priority

Priority decides which scan runs first when several scans are queued at the same time: Critical before High, High before Medium, and Medium before Low. When your schedules use more than one priority, the table shows a sortable Priority column.

Edit a schedule

  1. Click Edit on the schedule’s row.
  2. Change any field. The Edit schedule modal also has the Enabled checkbox.
  3. Click Save changes.

If you choose a target with a different scan type, the modal clears the Scan profile so you can pick one that matches the new target.

Delete a schedule

  1. Click Delete on the schedule’s row.
  2. In the Delete schedule dialog, click Delete schedule.

Scans that are already running finish. No future scans are triggered. The schedule’s past results stay on the Results tab.
