Software Curation Queue
Review software names that DeviceQuest could not map with confidence, then approve a canonical name or reject the match.
Overview
When DeviceQuest collects installed software, it maps each detected name to a canonical title, for example Mozilla Firefox ESR. When the resolver is not confident about a match, it puts the detected name in the Software Curation Queue with its best guess. Each row is a detected software name together with the proposed canonical title. You review the proposal, then approve a canonical name or reject the match.
Your decisions teach the normalization catalog. An approved name becomes an alias of the canonical title, so future scans map it automatically. A rejected name is suppressed and does not come back to the queue.
You open the queue from Admin → Software Curation (/admin/curation). You need curation:read to view the queue and curation:write to approve or reject items.
Screen tour
- Pending, Approved and Rejected: the queue sections. Each shows how many items it holds. Click one to show only that section. The text on the right shows how many items the queue holds in total, or how many match your filters.
- Search raw value or canonical…: finds items by detected name or proposed canonical title.
- Confidence: filters by match confidence: All, High, Medium or Low.
- Sort items: orders the list by Created (oldest), Created (newest), Confidence (highest), Confidence (lowest) or Updated (newest).
- Table view and Grid view: show items as table rows or as cards. DeviceQuest remembers your choice in this browser.
- Shortcuts: shows the keyboard shortcuts.
- Export CSV (N): downloads the items currently shown as a CSV file.
- Confidence: how closely the detected name matches the proposed canonical, as a bar and a percentage.
- Approve and Reject: decide a pending item. Both open a dialog first.
- The selection bar: appears when you tick items. It shows how many are selected and offers Approve N, Reject N and Clear.
Each row shows:
- Raw Value: the software name exactly as a scan or import reported it.
- Proposed Canonical: the canonical title the resolver suggests. A dash means the resolver has no suggestion.
- Created: when the item entered the queue. Hover for the exact date and time.
- Category: the kind of value, for example Software, Device, OS or Vendor.
- Confidence: the match score. Hover the help icon in the column header for the tiers.
- Status: pending, approved or rejected.
- Actions: Approve and Reject on pending items.
When there are new pending items since you last opened the page, a line under the title tells you how many, for example 2 new items since your last visit. Click × to dismiss it.
The list shows 50 items per page. Use Previous and Next under the list to page through it. The summary shows the range, for example Showing 1–50 of 120.
Review the queue
- Open Admin → Software Curation. The Pending section opens first, oldest items at the top.
- Narrow the list:
- Type part of a name in Search raw value or canonical….
- Click a Confidence tier. Start with High to clear the easy matches quickly, then work through Medium and Low.
- Choose a sort order, for example Confidence (highest).
- Click a row to open its detail panel. See Item details.
- Approve or reject the item.
When no item matches your filters, the page shows No items match these filters. Click Clear filters to reset the search, confidence and sort.
Filters and the open item are part of the page address, so you can bookmark a filtered queue or share a link to one item.
Approve an item
- Detected value: the raw name, read-only.
- Canonical name: the canonical title to approve. It starts with the proposed canonical, or with the raw value when there is no proposal. Edit it when the proposal is wrong.
- The impact summary: how many installations and assets the decision renames.
- Decision note: an optional reason, stored with the decision.
- The confirm button: Approve & apply to N assets when installations match, otherwise Approve canonical.
- On a pending item, click Approve.
- In Review software decision, check the Canonical name. Correct it if needed. The field is required.
- Read the impact summary:
- This renames N installations across N assets and refreshes software evidence. when installed software matches the detected value.
- No currently installed instances match this detected value. Future observations will use the approved canonical. otherwise.
- Optionally add a Decision note.
- Click Approve & apply to N assets or Approve canonical. To leave without a decision, click Cancel.
When you approve an item, DeviceQuest:
- adds the detected value to the normalization catalog as an alias of the canonical name,
- renames the matching installed software on every affected asset and refreshes their software facets,
- re-checks the affected assets against known vulnerabilities, so CVE matches follow the corrected name,
- moves the item to Approved and shows Approved “
” .
Reject an item
- Reason: why you reject the match: Wrong canonical, Not software, Duplicate or Other.
- Notes: optional extra context.
- Reject: confirms the decision.
- On a pending item, click Reject.
- In Reject item, choose a Reason. Wrong canonical is selected by default.
- Optionally add Notes.
- Click Reject, or Cancel to leave without a decision.
DeviceQuest stores the reason and notes together, for example [Duplicate] Same as 7-Zip. The item moves to Rejected and the detected value is suppressed, so the resolver does not add it to the queue again. The decision is final from this page.
Approve or reject several items
- Tick the checkbox of each item. To select every item in the section, tick the checkbox in the table header.
- In the selection bar, click Approve N or Reject N.
- In the dialog, check the list of items. The first five are shown; click +N more to see the rest.
- Complete the dialog:
- Approve N items: optionally add a Shared note that applies to every item. Each item is approved with its proposed canonical title.
- Reject N items: choose a Reason and optionally add a Shared note.
- Click Approve N or Reject N, or Cancel.
A bulk decision runs as one transaction. Click Clear in the selection bar to drop the selection.
