How to reconfigure WMI Settings Permissions for remote collect

1.Open Component Services

  • Open the Run dialog or Command Prompt and execute:
dcomcnfg

2.Navigate to Component Services > Computers

  • Right‑click My Computer and select Properties

3.Go to the COM Security tab and click Edit Limits in both sections (Access Permissions and Launch and Activation Permissions)

  • Add the collection account and allow Remote Access, Remote Launch, and Remote Activation as required

4.Configure WMI DCOM permissions

  • In Component Services, expand My Computer > DCOM Config
  • Locate Windows Management Instrumentation, right‑click, and select Properties

  • Go to the Security tab and grant the collection account Remote Launch and Remote Activation where applicable

5.Edit access permissions

  • In the same Security tab, edit Access Permissions to ensure the collection account has remote access rights

6.Verify required services and groups

  • Confirm that RemoteRegistry and Winmgmt (Windows Management Instrumentation) services are running and set to Startup type: Automatic

7.Add the collection account to the following local groups:

  • Event Log Readers
  • Distributed COM Users
